A to Z of the SUN

About the Project

The site for this mural project was Takanosu Chuoh Elementary School in Kita-Akita City in Akita, Japan. The Kids Energy Summit Executive Committee (SPARX Green Energy & Technology Co.,Ltd., PG COLLABO Inc.) organized this project in collaboration with the Chara-Rimpa Project.

This mural was created as a memorial for the 140th anniversary of the school. Next to the school there is a mega solar power plant, so students study about renewable energy sources. 5th and 6th grade students worked on this mural project with help from younger students.

The mural was painted in the English study classroom so the design incorporated stylized “A to Z” alphabet letters all around the room. Students created characters related to renewable energy sources such as the Sun, volcanoes, underground heat (geothermal energy), or wind and painted them inside the letters. The classroom transformed into an energetic English classroom with a lot of renewable energy imagery.
